Sales taxes in one state but not the other?

I live in Montana and we do not have sales taxes. We are going to visit Colorado for my sisters baby shower and the birth of the baby. What my question is though, since I live in Montana can i take my iD and say where i’m from and not have to pay sales taxes, or is there something i can do to not make me pay sales taxes while shopping in Colorado. if you have any info please let me know.

10 points!

I am pretty sure with sales taxes you have to pay them for the state you are visiting no matter what state you are from because the sale is made in that state only. There are a few finance layers in Denver that specialize in taxes such as BeneFactor Funding Corp. or Advanced Tax Solutions CPA PC They can probably better tell you whether you have to pay those taxes when visiting for sure!!

The only way you can not pay sales tax when shopping in Co. is to have the stuff shipped home. If you take posession of the merchandise in Co. then they properly charge sales tax.

Dear Helga: If you buy in CO you will pay CO sales tax. You could shop in CO on ebay and have the item shipped to CO and not pay sales tax if the item comes from outside the state. You could buy in MT and ship the item and avoid sales tax. The ID will not let you escape the CO tax. If your sister is listed on a registry try to buy the item in MT and then see if they would let you pick up the item in CO with no sales tax.
