Hello, I have 2 half american children that live in Europe with me and i would like to know if i can still get some money from the IRS for them, I am still married and not legally separated but i work overseas and my husband does not help us any.
Does anyone knows if the US will help us, we used to live there a year a go and he is still in the military.
Thank you so much.
I don’t know what you were expecting. EIC requires the child to be claimed as a dependent AND be living in the US for more than 6 months out of the year.
If you are US citizen or resident alien for tax purposes, you must file and declare worldwide income. if your children are US citizens, they can be claimed as dependents…but will not get you EIC since you weren’t living in the US. You are possibly eligible to exclude your earned income using form 2555. But if you use the form, you can’t claim the child tax credit.
